How to Install Codex Skin Studio on Windows

2026-08-06

Installing Codex Skin Studio on Windows to theme your OpenAI Codex desktop app takes three steps: download, launch injection, pick a skin. This guide also covers Windows-specific SmartScreen and antivirus issues.

Before you start

  • Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit)
  • OpenAI Codex desktop app installed
  • ~200MB free disk space

Three steps

Step 1: Download

Open codex-skin-studio.shop → click "Download for Windows" → get the installer (.exe or .zip).

Step 2: Install

Run the installer and follow the prompts (defaults to Program Files). If SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC" → click "More info" → "Run anyway". The installer is not yet Microsoft code-signed, so this is a normal step.

Step 3: Launch + pick a skin

Open Codex Skin Studio → click "Start injection" → it connects to the Codex desktop app → pick a skin (Romantic Rose / Fortune God / Red Sci-Fi / Clear Custom...) → applies instantly.

FAQ

  • SmartScreen warning? Click "More info" → "Run anyway". Unsigned installers are blocked by default on Windows.
  • Antivirus false positive? Injection only reads the local process — no network, no official file changes. Add an exception if needed (see FAQ on the site).
  • No effect after install? Fully quit Codex before starting injection; or restart Codex.
  • Does it modify official Codex files? No — themes are injected via CDP; nothing official is changed. Uninstall restores the original.
  • Windows 7 support? No — requires Windows 10/11 64-bit.
