2026-08-21
Codex Skin Studio supports both macOS and Windows, but the two platforms differ slightly in install paths, permissions and rendering details. Understanding these differences saves you a lot of trouble.
Installation Comparison
- macOS: install from the dmg; first launch requires allowing it in System Settings → Privacy & Security
- Windows: install from the setup package; SmartScreen may warn on first run
CDP Injection Differences
Both platforms inject themes via local CDP without modifying official files. The main difference: macOS sandbox permissions are stricter, so you'll need to confirm the authorization prompt on first connect to Codex.
Rendering Details
- Font rendering: macOS ClearType and Windows subpixel rendering differ slightly, so dark themes look subtly different on each
- Window chrome: on Windows, rounded corners and shadows follow system settings and may affect the theme look
